Pat McCabe Literary Weekend 19th-21st March
Hilton has a long literary association having been purchased in 1734 by Samuel Madden, friend of Swift and Sheridan, admired by Dr.Johnson, kinsman of Goldsmith and author of the seminal exhortation to the landowners of Ireland, Reflections and Resolutions. Now 250 years on, Hilton plays host to the Flat Lake Literary and Arts Festival; the long list of literary luminaries who have participated include Seamus Heaney, Pat McCabe, Colm Toibin, Eugene McCabe and Edna O’Brien.
Whilst the weekend will have a literary theme, there are the added attractions of our ‘extra-mile’ hospitality, Hilton’s glorious grounds and views, the unique ambience of this warm old house and artful country house cooking using the best of local and homegrown ingredients. Hilton has a large and eclectic library, a fine Erard piano for an impromptu and a particular winter warmth.
Weekends will start with dinner on Friday evening at 8.30pm and a leisurely breakfast the following morning. Walking, golf or just sitting about reading on Saturday; discussion starts over afternoon tea and after a musical interlude continues over an aperitif and dinner.
